From 19 to 22 June 2025, the city of Tangier hosted the first edition of the Mediterranean Encounters, a major cultural event organized by the Founoun Al Boughaz Foundation under the patronage of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.
Part of the program was held at Borj En Naam – Ibn Battouta Memory Exhibition Space, a heritage site managed by the Port of Tangier City , which oversees its presevation and cultural enhancement. The port’s involvement reflects its commitment to promoting Tangier’s heritage, culture, and international outreach.
The Mediterranean Encounters featured a rich lineup of literary readings, concerts, exhibitions, and panel discussions bringing together writers, artists, researchers, and cultural actors.
The opening evening paid tribute to Tahar Ben Jelloun, with readings of his texts and a conversation led by Mustapha Kebir Ammi. Renowned Moroccan and international authors including Rachid Benzine and Hyam Yared, addressed topics such as religious coexistence, Mediterranean identity, and exile literature.
Three major exhibitions enriched the event:
· Azurium, at Gallery Kent
· Corps à corps, by Khadija Tnana, at Dar D’Art
· A photographic tribute to Edmond Amran El Maleh, at Brahim Art Galerie
Through its engagement in this initiative, the Port of Tangier Ville reaffirms its role in promoting local heritage and cultural vitality, and its commitment to contributing to Tangier’s social and cultural development.
